National Forest Inventory

The National Forest Inventory (IFN) is an essential tool for understanding the structure and functioning of forest systems with the aim of being able to carry out the necessary actions for their planning, management and conservation.

This inventory characterizes the types of forests in Spain, quantifying the available forest resources, and presenting data on densities, stocks, growth, etc., and providing other parameters that describe the forests and treeless areas in Spain, as well as their biodiversity, all This with a methodology and common characteristics for the entire territory.

Like the MFE, it is a continuous project, based on collecting data from plots in wooded forest areas, which periodically covers the entire national territory. The Third NFI (IFN3) was executed between 1997 and 2007 and the Fourth NFI (IFN4) is currently being developed.
