General introduction to the use of cookies on the portal.
Cookies are files that can be downloaded to your computer through web pages. They are tools that play an essential role in the provision of numerous information society services. Among others, they allow a website to store and retrieve information about the browsing habits of a user or their equipment and, depending on the information obtained, they can be used to recognize the user and improve the service offered.
Types of cookies
Depending on who is the entity that manages the domain from which the cookies are sent and processes the data obtained, two types can be distinguished: own cookies and third-party cookies.
There is also a second classification according to the length of time they remain stored in the client's browser, which may be session cookies or persistent cookies.
Finally, there is another classification with five types of cookies depending on the purpose for which the data obtained is processed: technical cookies, personalization cookies, analysis cookies, advertising cookies and behavioral advertising cookies.

Cookies used on the website
The data and services portal of the Spanish Inventory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity uses Google Analytics, this is an analytics tool that helps websites and application owners understand how their visitors interact with their properties. A set of cookies are used to collect information and report website usage statistics without personally identifying visitors to Google. These cookies, which can be rejected or accepted since they do not interfere with the functioning of the Portal, are of great help by providing information that enables a better and more appropriate service from this Portal.
Finally, a technical type cookie called cookie-compliance, its own, technical and session type, is downloaded. Manages the user's consent to the use of cookies on the website, in order to remember those users who have accepted them and those who have not, so that the former are not shown information at the top of the page about. This cookie is mandatory for the portal to function correctly.
Acceptance / Rejection of the Cookies Policy
The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge allows the acceptance or rejection of cookies that are not essential for the functioning of the portal. To do this, once the user accesses the portal, a message will be displayed in the central part with information on the cookie policy and the following options:
- Accept cookies : If the user presses this button, non-mandatory cookies will be accepted and this notice will not be displayed again when accessing any page of the portal.
- Configure cookies : If the user clicks on the configure button, a second modal window will be accessed where they can configure which cookies to accept. This second window explains the cookies currently used and allows the selection or rejection of non-mandatory cookies. Once the selection is complete, press the Save Configuration button.
