In accordance with Law 42/2007, of December 13, on Natural Heritage and Biodiversity , all natural spaces that are formally designated in accordance with the provisions of international Conventions and Agreements are considered areas protected by international instruments. of which Spain is a part and, in particular, the following:
- Wetlands of International Importance, of the Ramsar Convention.
- The natural sites on the World Heritage List of the Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
- The protected areas of the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Northeast Atlantic (OSPAR)
- The Specially Protected Areas of Mediterranean Importance (ZEPIM), of the Convention for the protection of the marine environment and the coastal region of the Mediterranean.
- Geoparks, declared by UNESCO.
- The Biosphere Reserves, declared by UNESCO.
- The Biogenetic Reserves of the Council of Europe
The generic protection regime for these areas will be that established in the corresponding international Conventions and Agreements.
The official information on each of the areas protected by international instruments existing in Spain will appear in the Spanish Inventory of Protected Natural Spaces, Natura 2000 Network and Areas protected by international instruments, pending regulatory implementation.
