Mortalidad de rapaces en carreteras españolas.

A two-year survey of vertebrate mortality was carried out in Spain, the results showing that 5% of killed animals were raptors. Of these, mostly were nocturnal species (90.92%), being little owl and barn owl the most frequently found species. Night dazzling and scavenging behaviour are the most important causes of road kills. Avoiding construction of new roads, education and adequate signalling of black spots are suggested as conservation measures.

Se realizó una prospección durante dos años en España y los resultados demostraron que las rapaces significaron el 5% de los animales muertos. De ellas, la mayoría son especies nocturnas (90,92%), siendo el mochuelo y la lechuza común las especies que se han encontrado con mayor frecuencia. El deslumbramiento por los faros de los vehículos y el comportamiento de buscar carroña en la calzada son las causas más importantes de los atropellos. Se sugieren como medidas de conservación evitar la construcción de nuevas vías, la educación y la señalización adecuada de los puntos negros.
