Informe provisional del seguimiento de la mortalidad de vertebrados en las carreteras del área noroccidental de la provincia de Granada.

On a weekly basis, five local and one national roads were surveyed. Moreover, data on other roads were collected. Birds were the most affected taxa (53%. Passer domesticus, Phylloscopus collybita and Serinus serinus), followed by mammals (33%. Rattus norvegicus, domestic cat and dog), reptiles (9%) and amphibians (5%. Bufo calamita). Relative high bird mortality was explained by their higher mobility and their hunting/feeding behaviour. Mammals affected are mainly those related with human environments. Small mammals may use the roadside and that increased both small mammal and raptor casualties. Black spots. In general, traffic casualties can be partly explained by night traffic density, cars speed, location of roads, road characteristics such as vegetation on roadside, potentially perching point (fences, bridges), and animal abundance in the surroundings.
