Colisiones entre vehículos y animales de caza mayor. Una aproximación al problema.

Roe deer, red deer and wild boar collisions with cars are examined. 1500-2500 collisions/year in Spain are estimated. The temporal patterns and geographic distribution of collisions are related with ecological features, along with intensity and speed of cars. A more detailed study has been carried out in Alava province (N Spain). The distribution, density and frequency of car collisions of all three species in an area of 3047 km2, comprising 1430 km of roads, are investigated. Around 2.5% of deer and 8% of wild boar populations were run over during 1991. The existence of black spots suggests that localized mitigation measures could have easily lessen the problem. Responsabilities in case of collisions with big game are discussed. Among them, it is suggested that the Road Administration should be liable of damages when roads go through big game reserves and no mitigation measures are applied.

Se examinaron las colisiones entre coches y corzos, ciervos y jabalis. Se estimaron 1.500-2.500 colisiones/año en España. Las características temporales y la distribución geográfica de las colisiones se relaciona con aspectos ecológicos, conjuntamente con la intensidad del tráfico y la velocidad de los vehículos. Se ha desarrollado un estudio más detallado en la provincia de Álava (norte de España). Se investigó la distribución, densidad y frecuencia de las colisiones con coches de las tres especies en una área de 3.047 km2, compuesta por 1.430 km de carreteras. Se atropelló alrededor del 2,5% de individuos de las poblaciones de ciervos y el 8% de las de jabalí durante 1991. La existencia de puntos negros sugiere que se podría haver reducido el problema con medidas de mitigación localizadas. Se discuten las responsibilidades en el caso de colisiones entre caza mayor y vehículos. Entre otras, se sugiere que la administración de carreteras debería ser responsable de los daños en las carreteras que atraviesan grandes reservas de caza y cuando no se ha aplicado ninguna medida de mitigación.
