Accidentes de carretera con ungulados cinegéticos en el territorio histórico de Álava.

Analysis of casualties in Álava province (N Spain) involving roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) and wild boar (Sus scrofa). The involvement of both species in car accidents during a ten-year period increased markedly. Wild boar accidents were not related with its density, being a very erratic species who suffers human pressure during the whole year. Casualties occur during the hunting season and are highest on days following hunting battues. During the hunting season there is a significant relationship between the number of hunting battues and the number of accidents involving wild boar. The number of accidents involving roe deer was related to the density index for this species. From the standpoint of population dynamics, these species are probably not much affected by road casualties, although measures must be taken in order to avoid human victims and the economic costs of accidents.

Se trata de un análisis de los accidentes de tráfico en la provincia de Álava (N España) en los que se ven implicados corzos (Capreolus capreolus) y jabalis (Sus scrofa). La implicación de ambas especies en los accidentes de tráfico ha aumentado de manera importante en los últimos diez años. Los accidentes con el jabalí no se relacionan con la densidad siendo ésta una especie muy errática que sufre la presión humana a lo largo de todo el año. Los atropellos ocurren principalmente durante la época de caza y en ese período existe una relación significativa entre el número de batidas y el número de accidentes con jabalis. Con respecto al corzo, el número de accidentes se relaciona con el índice de densidad de la población de esta especie. Desde el punto de vista de la dinámica de las poblaciones, estas dos especies probablemente no se ven muy afectadas por los atropellos, aunque deberían aplicarse medidas de mitigación para evitar las víctimas humanas y los elevados costes económicos que implican este tipo de accidentes.
