Los autores estudiaron dos colonias de buitre negro (Aegypius monachus) recientemente establecidas. Una se localizaba en una plantación abandonada de pino marítimo (Pinus pinaster) que anteriormente se había explotado para la producción de resinas. La otra colonia estaba situada en una plantación de pino (Pinus silvestris) que actualmente se explotaba para la madera. Los buitres utilizaron emplazamientos para sus nidos en árboles maduros situados en claros dentro del bosque y en laderas abruptas en las partes media-altas de la montaña. Estos claros tenían poca presencia de carreteras.
